Dreamweaver Template Package Instructions

This template package includes Dreamweaver templates (.dwt files, located in the Templates folder) and sample .htm pages created from the .dwt files, located at the top level of the package folder). The template package also includes image files that appear on the sample .htm pages, (.gif or .jpg files, located in the Images folder) and blank source images (.gif and .jpg files) without the text for you to modify in the graphics program of your choice.

Use this template package to create a new site or add template files to an existing site. Create new pages from the Dreamweaver templates (the .dwt files), modify sample pages (.htm files) with your own content, or reformat existing HTML pages in a site by applying a template to them.

Modifying Images

You can edit the graphics in literally any graphics program. The image folder contains a blank state of the buttons and logo and page header files in either .gif or .jpg format. Open the blank images in the graphics program of your choice, and add text to match your site or company name and the names of your individual .htm pages. If the rollover images show only a text color change, only one blank image is included in the package.

Library Items

Several areas of the sample .htm pages contain library items. These areas are usually the footer information, and the news box areas. You may continue to use these, altering them to reflect your information. Open the library items either by double clicking on the name of the library item in the site files list, or by using the assets panel. Make the text changes, save, and the changes now appear on all pages. Any library items in the site used for display text only, may be safely deleted from the site. Stylesheets

CSS has been used to set the font face, size, and color. You can easily edit these using the css editor built in to Dreamweaver. There are also classes included in the stylesheet for making the news boxes text a different color as well as any links placed in those boxes.

To add a colored scrollbar, you will need to use notepad or another text editor to add this line to the body tag: scrollbar-base-color:#XXXXXX; Use may use any hex color code of your choosing.

Complete Instructions

Complete instructions for modifying a template can be found at the Macromedia site. It is suggested you read them thoroughly and print them if necessary. Modifying a template is very easy to do, but reading the instructions carefully will save you time in the long run. Information on their site referring to Fireworks does not apply to our template packages.
